Plaza East Condominium

Rules

• Hurricane Shutters

Purpose:

To have uniform specifications for hurricane shutter installation.

Rules:

  • All installed hurricane shutters must meet the current Broward County
Building Code.

  • Prior to installation, an Alteration Request Form must be submitted, with
specifications, to the Manager.

  • A building permit is required.

  • All hurricane shutters must be white.

  • All hurricane shutters installed on a unit’s balcony must be of the
accordion type.

  • On the kitchen and bedroom windows (catwalk side) – Side-sliding type or
Roll-up type may be installed.

  • Prior to installation of new hurricane shutters, holes from old shutters must
be caulked. The holes drilled for the new shutters must be filled with
caulking prior to installing anchors or bolts. Both upper and lower tracks,
where the tracks meet the walls, must be caulked to prevent water intrusion
into the apartment or walls.

FYI: To keep shutters maintained properly, they should be serviced semi-
annually. If shutters are not in proper operating condition, and depending
on circumstances, Maintenance will not be able to take the time to close
your shutters during an emergency.
