Procedures
Purpose:
For the safety and protection of
residents and property during hurricane season, June 1 through Nov.
30.
Rules:
- If a hurricane evacuation is ordered by Broward County, you are
1. Local emergency services do not have to respond to calls.
- Power in the building will be shut off, which means there will be NO WATER, NO AIR CONDITIONING, NO LIGHTS, NO ELEVATOR SERVICE
- There will be no building staff present.
These steps are necessary to protect the building’s systems from potential serious damage, which could prevent occupancy for several weeks after a storm.
- Special procedures are available for non-ambulatory residents:
- Prior to hurricane season, call and register with The Broward County Department of Emergency Management (DEM) at 954-537-2888. In the case of an emergency you must be pre-registered and be on their evacuation list. The DEM has a Special Needs Registry for the emergency evacuation of non-ambulatory residents and those in need of life support systems dependent upon electricity.
2. You must call the DEM each year to remain on the list.
- All shutters should be closed. The building cannot guarantee the maintenance staff will be available to close shutters for you.
- If a unit does not have shutters, all outdoor furniture must be moved inside.
